"If intuition is the call of the heart and soul, are you listening? AND, if you are listening, are you acting? If you are not acting, what fear are you holding onto that now prevents you from getting closer to that which you are naturally destined for?"

Cheryl Brewster poised these questions in our interview. She has honed an extraordinary relationship with intuition over 20 years to cultivate her life's work. Cheryl shared some fascinating insights on how intuition can guide us if we get out of our own way. The greatest challenge with ones' own highest guide - intuition - is the lack of trust in it. Following, are some insights on how we hold ourselves back from the magical bliss that intuition so wants us to experience.

Why do we resist our intuition when it is simply trying to show us the way toward increased states of contentment, love and peace?
Because the role of intuition takes you into the new, the unknown, it is the aspect of being "inner directed" that is most vital to your evolvement. It takes immense integrity of oneself to believe what cannot be seen, to base life-changing decisions on glimpses, senses, feelings rather than cold, hard, tangible facts. Can you trust yourself (your intuitions) enough to know this is the right thing to do...to follow through even when present circumstances (and even in the future) don't necessarily agree with you, seem practical and result in taking you out of your "comfortableness" toward something for which there is no guarantee?

You have referred to cosmic constipation on several occasions. What do you mean by that?
Cosmic constipation is when you are not honoring yourself in relationship to listening and acting on your intuition. This always leads you into a state of confusion. The confusion is usually because you are putting off that which you intuitively know you need to do for yourself. The more you put "it" off, the higher probability for self-doubt. This in turn increases the odds of staying stuck about the object of your confusion. Your intuition will continue to try and eek you forward. This is when you need to trust and feel with your heart instead of thinking with your head to make your next move.

What does letting go mean in allowing your intuition to direct you?
It's about surrendering to the voice that is trying to direct you into your future. It's the willingness to enter into the new with un-waivering faith even if you are scared about the what if's. It is deciding to trust your inner voice to explore, pursue, and make a clear decision on the new something without a lot of associated angst. It wants to set you up to come from a place of empowerment versus being threatened about the unknown. The question you have to ask yourself is what do you want your experience to be while you go through transformation and change? Fear is the stopper of fluid energy.

What's the S hook?
The S-hook is the link that takes you from an intuitive hit to deliberate action. In order to nourish single-minded focus, I encourage the use of ABC Intuition checklist; the "C" is "connect to the heart." As we use this step, our experience of working with intuition takes us into the wonder, awe and magic of who we are. The question then becomes what is the link or missing link that is going to get you from intuition to action where wonder, awe and magic exist for you? Theosophist Madame Blavatsky definition of magic is "wisdom applied."

What are three things to practice in harnessing more of your own intuition?

  1. Connect to and with your heart. This is where magic resides. When you are in a state of confusion over something you either stay the present course or make a shift based on what your heart feels around confusion. You make it more agonizing by not listening to your heart. Remember a touchstone time in your life and determine if the present or proposed course of action feels more like a touchstone. A touchstone is when you recall a peak experience where you re-aligned yourself to evolve and it just felt right without lots of facts attached to the decision. You were transcending.
  2. Acknowledge and celebrate the stage you have left or are leaving. Scent, music and food for your brain are so powerful and constantly trigger the good and not so good for you. Change the candle scent, try a new perfume, listen to new music, read a new book. Because these things are tangible, they will anchor your intuitive experience into the physical world and create a shift for embracing it from the head to the heart.
  3. Integrity and intention. Use deliberate focus on applying your intuitions for the highest care of all concerned. We are most beneficial and productive as human beings in serving ourselves and others when we get clear and clean on who we are. What do you want your experience to be - energetically clean or contaminated?

Are you resisting your intuitive feelings or acting upon these feelings with full trust in your inherent ability to choose the right way for you?
